Visit of the Lord Mayor of Andek and the Divisional Officer for Ngie to a Mudslide Area in Bonatu Village
On Friday, 17th April 2026, the Lord Mayor of Andek Council, Mr. Ubangoh Helly, and the Divisional Officer for Ngie, Mr. Oteh Philip, together with their technical staff, carried out an emergency visit to Bonatu Village to assess the extent of destruction caused by a mudflow that occurred earlier that day, after heavy rain.
Despite his hectic schedule, the Mayor promptly responded upon receiving news of the disaster, demonstrating his commitment and concern for the wellbeing of his people, by alerting the Divisional Officer so that both of them could rush to the site of the disaster.
Upon arrival, they observed that the mudflow had affected a stretch of the Andek-Ajei road, covering approximately 500 meters, causing significant disruption to the road network and damage to farmlands.
Following the assessment, the Lord Mayor reassured the population of immediate council intervention. He stated that urgent measures would be taken to reopen the road and announced plans to engage the Divisional Delegate of Public Works to carry out a proper evaluation and costing for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected road.
The visit concluded with a brief address from the Divisional Officer, during which he encouraged the population, thanked God that no human life was lost despite the significant destruction caused by the mudflow, and prayed that the Almighty would continue to protect the people of Bonatu and the entire Andek Municipality.
