Preparations for the 54th National Day Celebration – 20th May 2026 in Andek municipality
The Mayor of Andek Council hereby informs the general public, administrative authorities, traditional leaders, and development partners that Andek Council is actively preparing for the celebration of the 54th Edition of National Unity Day, scheduled for 20th May 2026.
In close collaboration with the Divisional Officer for Andek, security services, and all stakeholders, the Council has taken measures to ensure a peaceful, dignified, and inclusive celebration that reflects our collective commitment to peace, unity, and development.
For this year’s celebration, the Council will place special emphasis on civic responsibility, social cohesion, and resilience. Key highlights of Andek’s programme include:
Promotion of Civic Responsibility: The Council shall distribute school uniforms to selected students of secondary and primary schools within the municipality. This gesture aims to encourage our youths to embrace education, discipline, and patriotism.
Recognition of Resilience: Special recognition shall be made for some citizens who, through courage and sacrifice, have played important roles in ensuring that normalcy returns to our municipality. Their contribution to peace and stability will be honored.
Support for Culture: Special gifts have been reserved as incentives for cultural groups that shall grace the national event, in appreciation of their role in preserving our heritage and fostering unity.
Infrastructure Upgrade: Renovation works are ongoing on the grandstand to give Andek a decent and befitting look for the ceremony.
Sanitation Drive: General cleanup campaigns have been programmed around the ceremonial grounds and major streets to ensure a clean, healthy environment for all participants.
Hospitality Mobilization: Restaurants and bars in the Andek urban area have been called upon to make their business places ready to receive the huge crowds expected for the event.
From recent events and community mobilization, there are all indications that the population is going to turn out more than ever before.
The Mayor calls on all sons and daughters of Andek, both at home and in the diaspora, to massively mobilize and take active part in this national event. 20th May remains a symbol of our unity and a reminder of our shared responsibility to build a stronger, prosperous Cameroon.
