Today, 23rd September 2026, the Lord Mayor of Andek Council, Mr. Ubangoh Helly Manyelle Akoba, granted an audience to a delegation from Akuwu village led by the Chair of the Traditional Council and the Neighbourhood Coordinator, accompanied by members of the Village / Neighbourhood Committee.

The purpose of the visit was to present and seek development projects for their community.

During the audience, the delegation handed to the Lord Mayor copies of feasibility studies they had sponsored, notably studies for the construction of the Akuwu potable water supply scheme and the construction of a community hall, among others.

In his response, the Lord Mayor welcomed the initiative and sensitized the delegation on the procedure for acquiring projects within the new context of Decentralization, as provided for by Law No. 2019/024 of 24 December 2019 and Ministerial Order No. 00000138/A/MINDDEVEL of 3 September 2019, which place Village / Neighbourhood Committees at the center of local development.

The Lord Mayor clarified that development projects are henceforth domiciled at the Council and no longer in Yaounde, and advised the community to channel all concerns through the appropriate decentralized structures. He deplored the approach of some elites who, without adequate knowledge of the current priorities of the village, address petitions directly to ministerial departments.

The delegation acknowledged that some of these elites have not visited the village for over ten years and are therefore not well placed to identify the real and priority needs of the resident population.

This audience took place in the presence of the Divisional Officer for Ngie Sub-Division, Mr. Oteh Philip Bache, who seized the opportunity to educate the delegation on the respect for republican values and the imperative for all children to return to school.

In line with his well-known epithet “Talk Na Do”, attributed to him by Hon. Ujambeng Stephen, the Lord Mayor reassured the people of Akuwu of his firm commitment to do everything within his powers to ensure that the community is provided with a sustainable source of potable water within the framework of the next Council budget.

The delegation left visibly satisfied, with renewed hope of having pipe-borne water in Akuwu by January 2027.
